7 Winter Wardrobe Essentials

After living in Nashville for seven years, the toughest transition when I moved back home to Northern Indiana was readjusting to the frozen tundra that is winter. As each winter passed while living in Nashville, it’s like my winter wardrobe melted away and became lighter and lighter.

Don’t get me wrong, Nashville can get cold but I never needed snow boots and forgot the importance of an extra layer between your coat and your shirt.

I still had a few pieces of warm clothing when I moved back home but now that I’m preparing for my third winter in Indiana, I’ve definitely amped up my outerwear to survive the cold winter months.

Below are my favorite winter wardrobe essentials.

Winter Wardrobe Essentials

  1. Black Snow Boots
    • Never underestimate a practical boot. I have a similar pair that are stylish and fun but still hold up well in the snow and ice. And they are warm!
  2. Red Pom Pom Hat
    • This knitted beanie from Gap has been one of my favorites for the past couple of winters! It’s super warm and I like a pop of color since I usually wear a lot of black when it’s cold.
  3. Black Puffy Coat
    • I got this coat last winter after I realized the coats I’d been wearing weren’t actually that warm. I needed an everyday coat and this one is lined and goes almost to my knees. Plus, it has those thumb holes in the sleeves which help keep my hands nice and toasty!
  4. Green Puffy Vest
    • My favorite puffy vest from Zara is no longer sold so I found a similar one from H&M. This is great for layering and I like that it can be worn inside or outside.
  5. Plaid Poncho
    • This poncho is another great layering piece! It’s super festive for Christmas and Thanksgiving but is basically like wearing a blanket.
  6. Cream Draped Coat
    • I got this coat a couple of years ago from Forever 21 and I get complimented on it every time I wear it! This coat is great when you need something a little dressier but that still keeps you warm.
  7. Faux Fur Vest
    • This fur vest is a little bit of a splurge but it’s so versatile and goes with almost everything. It’s a fun way to spice up an outfit!
