When my friends and I were little, we played a game called “mermaids” which basically was just us swimming in the lake pretending to be mermaids. Creative, I know.
The best part was that we would start each game by describing our mermaid features. So we would describe the color of our fin or our shell swimsuit tops and most importantly, what color our mermaid hair was.
Pink was (and still is) my favorite color and without a doubt, some part of my mermaid outfit would be pink and most of the time, it was my hair. So when I heard that Kristin Ess created a temporary pink hair tint for Target, I knew I had to try it!
It’s a really simple process. You spray the color on in the shower after you’ve shampooed your hair, leave in on for 1-2 minutes, and then rinse it out. It only lasts about 2-3 washes so it’s extremely temporary and only works on blonde hair (highlights or balayage hair works, too).
When I tried the hair tint last week, I learned that I apparently have porous hair so the color soaked up very quickly. I only left it on my wet, post-shampooed hair for about 2 minutes but it turned a VERY bright color of pink. That was not the look I was going for so I had to wash my hair two more times to get it to tone down to the soft pastel pink/rose gold hair color I was originally wanting. I learned that a little of this hair tint goes a long way. Also the more dry your hair is, the more color will soak up.
After the color toned down a little, I loved it! I also died an old set of blonde hair extensions so I could have the mermaid hair of my dreams.
Overall, I would give this 4 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone who wants to do something different with their hair without a big commitment. The only downfall is that there’s not a lot in the bottle, so I was only able to get about 3 uses out of it. The hair tint is currently available in two colors, rose gold and purple. I love it! I’m normally not big on fun-colored hair, at least for myself, but I think it still looks really natural.
Thanks so much! I’m not either but I think this is a more subtle color and it was really fun.
